My book is called Broken Promise and in my info graphic, you’ll notice that besides the title ‘Broken Promise’ there’s a photo of a broken window. I chose this photo not just because it was the title page of the book but because it reminds you of a broken promise. I think this because the glass represents the ‘promise’ but then somebody broke it. Using a photo that makes the viewer think will be more effective than a straightforward photo. On the next page of my info graphic are the more important characters. I tried to give that page a happier vibe because the setting takes place in a small town. Small towns are usually more cheerful, but I tried to make it seem like it’s not a perfect town by tilting the name tags and using the colour black. I used the colour black because many people see it as a sad or ‘pessimistic’ colour. One of my key symbols is number 23. I chose this as one of the key symbols because it is a clue to who the criminal might be. The number 23 is a clue because the criminal put a note on a Ferris wheel they hijacked and the note was on carriage number 23. They later found 23 dead squirrels hanging on a fence. I also think that this is a key symbol because it might lead on to the second book of the trilogy. The second object was a flyer with baby products on them. This is an important object because when Marla got a baby(Matthew) from an 'angel' a stroller was sent with the infant. When David arrived at Marla's house he was confused about where she got Matthew from. When he saw the flyer for baby products in the stroller he looked to where it had been mailed first. This flyer lead David to a crime scene and murder of Rosemary Gaynor. The third and final object is a needle and this represents when Jack (Dr.) Sturgess tried to kill people with his needle. Nobody knew what was inside of it but they did know it could kill you. This needle is an object that represents chaos because every time Dr.sturgess brings out a needle everyone is trying to stop him from using it. A conflict in the story is character versus character because Agnes is fighting against the other lawyer to prove that Marla is innocent and she didn't kidnap Matthew or kill Rosemary. The second conflict is character versus self because when David saw blood on Marla's door he didn't want to think she killed somebody but he did think it at the same time. This shows character versus character because he is constantly fighting with himself. One theme in the book is to never give up because Agnes, David, and Ducksworth all could have given up and let Marla take the blame but they didn’t they worked really hard to overcome all the obstacles thrown at them and it paid off. The other theme is to fight for what you believe in I think this theme really stood out because David came to the conclusion to believe that Marla didn’t murder or kidnap anyone when everyone else thought she did. David took things into his own hands to prove many people wrong and ended up being right. The setting of the story took place in many different places because everyone was driving everywhere. A few places were the police station, Marla’s house, the Gaynors house, and David's mom's house. The mood was usually tense because of the situations they were in although some parts of the book were chaotic. The first quote I have on my info graphic is "If I've caused you trouble, I'm sorry I didn't mean to set you up." This is an important quote to me because it gives a hint to the reader of what might happen next or in the next book. The second quote is “while you were in Boston. There was an incident”. I think this quote helps the reader get an idea that the book is starting to create a climax. The final quote is "Marla I'm serious. You need to talk to me here." The quote tells us that something with Marla happened and the conflict is beginning.
Why you should read this book!
Broken Promise written by New York Times bestselling author is by far one of the best books I’ve read. Broken Promise is not only suspenseful but each and every character she creates has their own uniqueness to them. The book is suspenseful because once one obstacle happens another is thrown at them making you want to read more. The book is described as a ‘page turner’ and they couldn't have been more accurate because nobody ever wants to put it down. The suspense in the book is continuous because there's more than one conflict going on at a time. Once I think everything's alright something jumps out at you and a whole other problem begins. The book is one out of four, meaning the first one keeps you on your toes at the end. This book really takes you out of the box to learn about the new promise falls town. I highly recommend ages 13 and up to give this book a try, no younger, because there are curse words and that, depends on what you want your child reading. This is also a murder mystery but it doesn’t describe too much of what the murder looks like, this way you can visualize letting your imagination come in. Anybody who is looking for a summer book I suggest this one, but warning you might not be able to put it down. This murder mystery not only reveals who the murderer is but secrets that were held in promise falls nobody knew about. I also recommend non-readers to give it a shot because I don’t read often but it is a fascinating book. The length of the book feels much shorter than it is because of the suspense it has. I rate this book 5/5 stars because it lets your imagination roam free while giving you plenty of detail to understand what’s going on.
